
ASTM A182 F22 (also referenced as A182 F22, SA 182 F22, SA182 F22, or simply F22 material) is a 2¼Cr-1Mo (2.25% chromium, 1% molybdenum) low-alloy steel specification covering forged or rolled alloy-steel pipe flanges, forged fittings, valves, and similar parts for high-temperature pressure service. It falls under ASTM A182 — the standard specification for forged or rolled alloy-steel and stainless-steel piping components — alongside related grades F11 (1¼Cr-½Mo) and F91 (9Cr-1Mo-V).
The 2¼Cr-1Mo chemistry of F22 delivers a critical combination of high-temperature strength, resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking (hydrogen attack), creep resistance, and oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 538°C (1000°F). This makes F22 material the standard alloy steel specification for refinery hydroprocessing units, high-temperature steam piping, power plant flanges, and petrochemical high-temperature pressure systems where carbon steel is inadequate and stainless steel is unnecessary.
